## The host is present — codes assist, they do not replace

The difference from an [Airbnb-style rental](/qr-codes-for/airbnb-and-short-term-rentals)
is that a B&B host is there. Codes should remove chores from the conversation — passwords,
directions, menu choices — and leave the hospitality in it.

## The walk-board trick

A location QR code encodes coordinates, not an address — which matters in the
countryside, where the best walks start from a lay-by with no postcode. A code per walk
on the hallway board opens the precise start point, and a guest on your WiFi at breakfast
can load the route before losing signal in the hills.

## Tiny print runs, home equipment

A B&B needs perhaps a dozen printed codes in total, which changes the economics: no print
shop, no minimum order.

- A [Dymo or Brother label printer](/docs/print/dymo-and-brother-label-qr-codes) handles
  folder and board labels; an ordinary laser at **300 DPI** handles card inserts.
- Codes read at bedside or in a folder (**30 cm**) need **2.5–3 cm**.
- Laminate pouches for anything in a bathroom, porch or garden — steam and dew wrinkle
  bare paper in days.

## Ask for the review at checkout, not by email

The review code lives on the counter and gets pointed at during goodbye, when the guest
is stood still, phone in hand, at peak goodwill. Follow

nothing in return.

## What goes wrong

- The walk code pointing at the village postcode centre instead of the trailhead — the
  guest parks half a mile from the path.
- Gloss laminate on a sunlit windowsill board, unreadable at exactly breakfast time.
- A review link buried in a follow-up email instead of asked in person — the moment, and
  most of the reviews, are gone.

### Can I print B&B QR codes myself?

Yes — this is one of the few hospitality settings where home printing is the right
answer. A label printer or a 300 DPI laser covers everything; laminate any code exposed
to steam or weather. Keep each code at 2.5–3 cm for arm's-length reading.

### When should a B&B ask for a Google review?

At checkout, in person, with the code on the counter. A guest saying goodbye is
stationary and at their most positive. Asking everyone and offering nothing keeps you
inside Google's review policies.
