QR codes for nightclubs
Nightclub QR codes fight near-darkness: phone torches fire automatically, so a glossy menu card flares into unreadability. Use matt lamination, at least 5 cm of code, pure black on white. Put drink menus on tables, entry codes at the door, and a safe-ride code at the exit.
The darkest table in hospitality
A club table sits in near-darkness with strobing colour washes — the extreme end of low-light scanning. What actually happens at the table: the phone's camera detects darkness and fires its torch, and a glossy laminated card returns that torchlight as a specular flare that blanks the code. So the menu code spec is:
- Matt laminate, without exception. Gloss plus torch equals flare.
- ≥ 5 cm of code — bigger than the table-tent norm, because low light and drinks-in-hand camera shake both blur small modules.
- Pure black on white. Brand colours cost contrast you cannot spare, and coloured house lighting shifts hues unpredictably — see colours that scan.
- Weighted or fixed tents; flat cards drown in spills and get stacked.
The linked menu must load fast on a crowded venue's saturated cell coverage — small page, own WiFi if you can.
The door
Guest-list and ticket codes are shown on phones, and the queue is outdoors at night: screens at low brightness fail against the scanner, so signage telling punters "screen brightness up" genuinely speeds the line. For your own printed door signage — entry conditions, ID policy — normal print rules apply.
The exit is the highest-value placement
A safe-ride code — licensed-taxi number, ride-hail deep link — at the exit and in the smoking area, positioned at eye level where people wait, is cheap, on-brand for a venue that cares, and used at exactly the moment judgement is worst. Pair it with a phone payload so one tap dials a licensed firm.
DJ tracklist or follow codes by the booth catch the "what was that track" impulse — link the night's playlist, not a homepage.
UV ink: a gimmick, honestly
Codes printed in UV-reactive ink appear only under blacklight. As theatre it is fun; as infrastructure it fails — the code is scannable only where UV lighting happens to fall, and error correction cannot rescue a half-lit symbol. Use it for a treasure-hunt promotion if you like, never for the menu.
