QR codes for laundromats
Launderettes combine an unattended site with 30–60 minutes of captive waiting. That means per-machine fault-report codes with the machine number already in the URL, a payment-app enrolment code at the door, and a WiFi code for the wait. Label codes in every language your customers actually speak.
Two structural facts drive everything
A launderette is usually unattended, and every customer waits 30–40 minutes for a wash plus 40–60 for a dry. No other retail environment hands you an hour of captive, phone-in-hand attention — and no staff to answer "this machine ate my coins".

Per-machine codes: the asset-tag pattern
The fault-report code is asset tagging applied
to washers: each machine's code encodes its identity —
example.com/fault?m=W3 — so the report arrives knowing which machine, and the customer
types nothing. Build the set from a spreadsheet with the

laminated label sheet in one run.
Labels at 2.5–3 cm read fine at panel distance; matt laminate survives detergent
wipe-downs where bare paper labels pulp in a month of condensation.
The honest caveat: the scan itself is not the report. The form behind it is — and it should capture machine ID (prefilled), fault type and an optional photo, then actually alert whoever services the machines. A code pointing at a generic contact page teaches customers once that scanning is pointless.
The multilingual note
Launderettes serve some of the most linguistically mixed customer bases in retail. The code is language-neutral but its label is not: caption codes in the two or three languages actually spoken in the neighbourhood, and make the forms behind them equally plain. "Machine broken? Scan here" translated properly outperforms any icon.
What goes wrong
- One shared fault code for the whole shop — reports arrive saying "the dryer is broken" in a room with nine dryers.
- Paper labels curling off machines in permanent humidity.
- A payment-app code that opens the app-store listing with no context, instead of a page explaining the machines take the app.

Each machine gets a code whose URL carries its number, so a scan opens the fault form with the machine already identified. Generated in bulk from a machine list and printed as laminated labels, the whole shop is covered in an afternoon.
What QR codes should a laundromat have?

Do QR labels survive in a laundromat?
Only laminated ones. Constant humidity and detergent contact destroy plain paper labels within weeks. Matt-laminated stock or engraved tags hold up, and matt matters — strip lighting on gloss laminate produces glare that blocks scans.
